There are very few orchestras in highschools because of the whole marching band thing. So what do you guys do in order to keep practicing? Unless your highschool has an orchestra. Do you have personal instructors or just practice by yourselves? Just would like to know.

Well, I`m the type of person that thinks that you should always have a private teacher, regardless of whether you need motivation to practice or not. So, this year, I`m in orchestra, and taking lesson. I suggest the private teacher thing, because you learn sooo much quicker that way. Also, if you have a good teacher, then you learn a lot better technic too. Those are my thoughts.

Hey thanks for replying. I personally am self taught. yes and I do believe that a teacher will accelerate your skills. I had a good teacher in middle school, I got good quick. Now its just whatever.

Greetings from Colorado, USA. Orchestra is big here (no, no as big as band, but we`re better anyway.) We`re going to Germany!! Yay!

I think if your school doesn`t have an orchestra, you might be able to find other players and make a quartet. Or an orchestra. Or maybe just a duet. You could play after school or something and have a backyard concert. Maybe you even might be able to get a gig at a coffeeshop or something. Just keep playing!
