hi, im thinking about buying the sheet music for elgar`s cello concerto (mainly for the 1st movement) and was just wondering how hard it is cos it`s a lot of money if i cant play it becauese its too hard.
Does anyone know the approximate ABRSM grade for it?

Just from listening to it, I think it`s beyond any of the standard grade examinations. But if you`ve stumped up for a cello and enough lessons to even be considering the Elgar, it might be worth putting your hand in your pocket for a couple of quid for the sheet music- if some if it`s too hard I`m sure there will at least be extracts that you can play.

The first movement is pretty hard because of the different clefs. Mainly treble is what is giving me the most trouble at the moment. Where were you going to buy it from , I got a copy of just the solo cello part for $10 at sheetmusicplus.com :O)

THe grade for the western states honor festival rates it as a 19/20 for difficulty level. On a scale from one to ten, its about a ten. The second and third movements are considerably harder than the first or fourth.

Nope seriously the first movement is quite ok, like the third. I find the Fourth movement the hardest, then the second. for the second and fourth watch out for your intonation and DUN rush. go ahead, Elgar ROCKS!!!
