Ok, here`s what they are trying to say on that site... I will use first position for an example;
In first postition, on your C string (the lowest string) your first finger will play a D, and on the G string it will play an A, on D string an E, and on A string a B. To play a C major scale, you can start with your lowest string, and start playing using these fingerings, 0 standing for an open string, and 1 standing for your index finger, 2 for your middle finger, 3 for your third finger (or, if you play piano, your fourth finger), and 4 for you pinky;
(C string) 0-1-3-4
(G string) 0-1-3-4
(D string) 0-1-2-4
(A string) 0-1-2
This will take you on a two octave major scale. First position is your basic position, and should be very easy to use. From first position, to go to second position, just shift a whole step up, and you will be there. From second to third, just go a half step, and from third to fourth, a whole step. I have some diagrams that I may be able to scan, and post for you, if you want. Let me know if that helps.
