Hey. I`ve been playing the piano for like 10 years, and I`m thinking of taking up a string instrument. So far I`m thinking of either the viola or cello. Because i want something that`s different.

Can anyone help me? Which one do you think would be better? considering sound and the clefs...

I hope that you weren`t looking for a non-bias opinion, because you won`t find one by asking instrumentalists themselves. There is a never-ending battle between the cellists and violists over which is the better instrument. I`ll be honest, both have lovely sounds when played well. There is much more solo literature for the cello, and I believe that cello is a much more versital instrument than the viola. I suppose it really depends on what you want. If you like the sound of a trebble instrument with a darker side, go Viola. If you love a deep rich tone, but can be high and sweet as well, go Cello. I`d suggest cello over viola for anyone, but again, that`s my bias opinion.
