I am thirteen, and i want to play the cello. I found a rental place because I don`t want to pay alot of money all at once. It`s a really good place, city music center. I just need to know is this a good deal: $215.09 (USD) for the first year. $37 for each month after that until I pay the price of the 4/4 cello which is $1600. Any one ever rented a cello from them?

Hello Jimmy,

I just started to rent my first cello and received it last week. I choose to rent from stringworks (www.stringworks.com) since they have a great rental and upgrade program. 2/3rds of your rental fees go toward the purchase of an instrument if you decide to buy your rental or any other of their line. Also, they have a great upgrade program that will atribute 100% of the cost of your previous instrument when you upgrade to another. The cello I received is absolutely beautiful and much nicer then any I had to choose from at music stores available for rent. My wife is curently renting a viola from a local shop and stringworks sent out 2 violas for her to try. The two they sent out were much nicer then her rental and plans to purchase one that sounds absolutly amazing (soloist viola) and is roughly the same cost as the rental she had intended on purchasing.

Give their website a look as I was in your shoes just 2 weeks ago.

Best regards,

Marc Webster

Jimmy,

The question you need to be asking is, how does the full retail price of $1600 compare with similar cellos bought outright? Don`t forget the retailer has to make a profit and most rentals will have the prices substantially higher than ypou could get from retailers who do not offer this sort of scheme.

What type of make is it? This summer i got my own cello (i had recently been using stupid school cellos) and when i got it, i found that i got my cello for cheap because it is a brand new Sammuel Eastman, and handcrafted for me, and i got it for a low 990$. i was very happy when i found this out. SO check out the make, and do research on it first.
