Hey! Music is MUSIC, it`s not a mad race to the finishing line. So why care about who gets there first, and who don`t?

it`s true. I`m 25 and just starting playing instruments. At the moment, that`s a real pain in the neck, but hey! Just tell urself your the best and ur cello and you have very special bounds that no one else has.
I`ll apply this to myself one day

I`m 16, and i am pone of the people who have been playing for a ridiculous amount of time- i started when i was 6. however i this only gives me a small advantage, as i was to little to be able to learn properly. I started 5 year before most of the people i play with, who are older than me, but not by much. the only advantage which i can see over playing longer is more experience- i have played in about 90 concerts. An instrument gives you a skill for life, so a couple of years difference soon will seem like nothing.

I am 17 and have been playing for 5 months, and actually stopped in July and August to pursue intense saxophone study. It`s never too late to start, music is a great thing no matter what you do with it. I intend to be a professional saxophone player and general music teacher and private instructor. In fact, I also started pretty late as far as saxophone goes, I started playing in 5th grade, but didn`t really take it seriously until two years ago, and now I`m really pushing to catch up as far as going to music college, but I`m already surpassing my peers through practice.
Practice every day, start about an hour a day, you may feel the need to increase it from there. Add more on weekends. Make it first priority thing you have to do every night. And be careful with it, be very diligent and critical of yourself, and you`ll get great results in no time. I barely have time to practice the cello (I spend about 3 hours a night with saxophones) but when I do, I make sure I`m careful with what I work on: basics, for sure! That`s where the key is, working on the basics very hard until you`ve mastered them; then everything else becomes easy. This can be applied to any instrument. Stick with it and you`ll get results in no time at all, you`ll feel like nothing`s happening for a while, then suddenly, wow, you`re a lot better than you were a month or so ago, eh?

and hey, just because I said I`m first chair doesn`t mean I sound a whole lot better than second! I think I just played the rythym better than him on our chair test!

chill!!! i was a late starter comparred to my friends (by about 10 years! 3/13)but i have overtaken most of them!! Anyway learning an instrument isnt a competition!! Dont try and practise endlessly it doesnt work!! Late starters tend to once they have the basics go a lot quicker!! Enjoy

Hey don`t worry about it. I started when I was nine, and was so bored, I didn`t learn for two years! If you practice, you`ll catch up fast. Well, a little story of my own, here, I have wanted to do ballet since I was 4, right? Well I started now, at 13, and all the other girls tease me about it, but I don`t care, because as long as you love something, anything is possible. You might not love your cello yet, though, while it`s still angry at you.

I am interested in playing cello. How much does one cost, and are they hard to learn?
