Well I`m pretty sure that you can play cello music on the bass. On cello sheet music, the top line is the A-string the middle line is the D-string, the bottom line is G-string and the bottom dash is the C-string.
_____________A
_____________
_____________D
_____________
_____________G
_
_C
-Oh and cello fingering is 134(index1 ring3 and pinky4 finger). The 134 cello fingerings are closer together than bass.

My main instrument is the Cello but I was trying to play the violin even though the fingerings and sheet music is completely different so I don`t think you should have that much trouble .

The fingering between Cello and Bass is completely different. First of all, the strings of a Cello are tuned at an interval of a 5th apart. The Bass strings are separated by an interval of a 4th. That means the open strings are completely different too (except the D string).
Bass players do not use their 3rd finger at all, except at the very very high positions.
Good luck, in any case!
