victoria is wrong about that bass has a much larger range especially the ones wit the low B string. i would know because i play cello and bass and ive actually counted the notes... and other than that there are really only 12 notes but there are many diffrent ones

7 positions,HAHAHAHAHAHAHA,not even close there are many more Thumb positions where you only use the first, second, and third fingers because it`s too hard to use the fourth finger or atleast uncomfortable, but that will come later.

ive been trying to get them!!!!!!!!!!!

i play the cello but i have been playing since setember thats it and i learned second position on the a string but have no clue the names of the notes and even if they have names which im sure they would have names! lol but second position is played like u put ur first finger normaly where ur 3rd finger would go and ur 2nd where the 4th finger would normally go and then the rest! like ur just playing like normal! i will reply back when i learned the other position on the d string!

There is a lot more to playing any instrument than just getting the correct pitch and the correct rhythm. If you can`t get a teacher you shoud watch as many good cellist as you can. There is much technique involved. You really can`t get that just from a book. You will do better seeing it actually done.

I started at the age of 12, but that was in Lilburn middle school in Gwinnett county GA in the 6th grade. In most Ga schools srings and band start in the 6th grade. Did you start in school or at home?

well my name is whitney and im in the 7th grade and i need to play i song that i cant read because i dont know the notes in the 3rd posithion on the A string. i am trying to find a website that shows ALL notes on the cello so i can learn.

hi whitney i know what you mean about going 3rd pos. on the A string but i could tell you what they look like on music.
the 1st finger on 3rd postion has a line going through it and a one below it.
the 3rd has a one going under neath and another underneath that one.
the 4th has one line going through it anther underneath it and another underneath that one.
i had something drawen but it would copy sorry i don`t know whether it`ll help but i hope so.
