I played flute and piano and then taught myself to play the cello at 15. I`ve also started double bass now.

no i play the cello flute and the piano and finds it helps me to understand piano music more and you wont have a problem with reading the music as you already can read the bass clef if you play the piano!

NO 16 is not to late to learn... i am currently 16 also and i too am beginning to play the cello and i also play the piano and drums. Some days it may seem like alot to take on, but as long as you get a good teacher and have the dedication, you`ll do just fine.

way to go encouraging the new cello players... I think that you are never too old to start to create your own musical expression, I started at 27!

Im 16 and I`ve played cello for 2 and a half years I`ve played piano for as long as I can remember. If you are planning on going to college and majoring in flute or piano I would recommend concentrating on your main instrument for now. Committing to a new instrument takes up a lot of time. If you do decide to take up cello find the best teacher you can and be prepared to fall in love with the cello.

Heh. You should really start. Now!
I wish I had begun earlier... I would have been good by now. I`m 18, I began less than three months ago. Doing well though. Gotten a lot of help by the fact that I play the piano and that I played the violin when I was little.
It feels a bit strange to play so simple tunes at this age (compared to what the other people play - and to what I play on the piano) and I`m still not sure whether they`ll put me in the orchestra with the young children or with the older.
