jealous of better players who don`t try

I love the cello more than anything, and I kind of have a dream to become a famous cellist or play gigs at Carnegie Hall and places like that, or play in pit orchestras and stuff.
The thing is, even though I feel like I try my butt off and have such a passion for playing, I`m a marginal player... Or at least I think I am. And it really bothers me that other people who don`t seem to care as much are better than I am without even trying.
Does anyone else ever feel like this?

-Me too, that also me dream!

-I did when I was a beginner, but a few years later when everyone else kind of lost interest in playing in Strings class, I didn`t. I got better and better until I realized that there were only a few cello players in the county my age that could play as good as me.
In the real world when it comes to playing professionally you have to go through something called college, LOL, and take lots of HARD stupid classes that have nothing to do with music and then me personally fail them along with loosing the pell grant(from bad grades, HA and teachers), not having a car anymore from it getting in a wreck, and not having a job from not having a car to go look for one. I feel as if i`m never going to graduate college. When I get back in college, I`ll never take those stupid teachers and classes again, because I have a choice of what classes I want to take next .

It may look as if these people aren`t trying, but trust me: THEY ARE.
I have a friend who plays better than I, believe it or not, and is arrogant so he tries not to make it look like he`s trying.
Look at his practice record. Yikes.

Robert,
Yes those that you talk about are the kind of people that lost interest and just quit. The ones that keep playing and get good are the ones that are very interested and enthusiastic about it.

What annoys me are people that don`t come to any rehearsals and leave me as a solo cello, and then waltz in on the night of the concert and take first desk......urgh....

Louise,
How does that happen? That`s stupid, so the teacher automatically assumes that person can play that piece of music without ever hearing him/her play it!?

Not always. If the teacher is just and fair, that person is really going to get it. Our teacher (actually, `doctor`) is a nice guy, but you better do what you`re told, practicing and rehearsals included.

I think that there are some who play `better` but dont try, we have a violinist who is forced by his parents to play, and at one time he loved it, but he lost interest a while ago. His technique is very good, but if you were to actually listen critically to him, you can tell. He plays the notes, but its not exactly musical, his vibrato is usually too fast, ect.
Not many people show up to our mandatory after-school rehersals, but my teacher finally gave up and refused to take them to evaluations and concerts if they didnt show. Our entire cello section was `noted` for being the only section that everyone showed up every time and we even stayed later then we were supposed to. Other than that we only really have 3 violins and a violist who actually care.

To first poster(cello) :
Nobody will quite get anyway withiut trying hard. The reason why they don`t seem to be even trying at all, is caz they`ve done all the trying in their homes and there`s no need to brag about or show how much you`ve practiced. And everything seems to be `easy` and they play at ease caz the intense practice has made them `immune`.
Try going out with a bunch of professionals... or college students or music majors... most of em seems `cool` and `cannot be bothered more`. But that doesn`t mean that they don`t commit becaz they don`t worry.
Rather, it`s the other way round. They don`t worry becaz they know that `any problem` will become nothing after sweating it out at home.
And normally those who seem the most cannot be bothered or don`t want to try, are those who practice the most at homes.
It will not be anything less than 4 hrs daily.
