If it is in bass clef, yes.
That`s kind of sad that you can`t find any cello music. Hm.

are trombonists also expected to learn tenor clef? because i know bassoonists have to, and i`m pretty sure cellists do. i`m guessing trombonists do as well. *sigh* tenor clef confuses me...

Haha - I`ve seen that too a couple of times in trombone (the tenor clef! Gasp!)
But the range of trombone can get pretty high and I guess writing them in tenor is cleaner than writing them in bass.
Side note : I finally got my cello in yesterday and even though i won`t be starting formally for a couple of weeks I am playing around with it and finding that the positioning reminds me of trombone.
Since there are no frets like guitar I have to feel around for a position quit a bit like trombone.
Anyway, just making an observation. Are there more trombon-ellists out there?

I play both trombone and cello and have played trombone for many years and I can`t remember when I have had to play anything but bass clef. The high notes are written above the clef. Of course, I haven`t done but very little symphonic work. Mostly dance bands and jazz bands.
On cello I have seen bass, tenor, and treble clefs. My teacher taught me an easy way to read tenor clef. Just read the note in bass clef and finger it one string higher. Like if it is what would be the "G" (4th finger) on the "D" string, play a "D" (4th finger) on the "A" string.

Ive played cello for 8 years anf trom for 3 and Im about royal schools grade 7 on trom. Yes, you do have to learn tenor clef for trom and though I have no probs on cello its IMPOSSIBLE to play on trom. And we (trombonists) also play in treble clef. It gets confusing then because the trombone then becomes a transposing instrument ie. in B flat like a trumpet. So that means you have to (in your head) first transpose from treble clef to bass clef, then down one tone AHHHH im so confused i can`t even write it here... must go ask on the trombone forum....

Yeah, ive been playing trombone for about 4 years now.
But im thinking on playing the cello soon. im kinda freaked out about it after reading what you guys just wrote im not quite good at tenor and such clefs otehr then bass. but im willing to try, the thing is i tried out for violin at teh begining of this school year and i stressed out, i guess my expectancy of learning a new instrument immediatly was high and playing a instrument for 4 years straight got me to think this way. but im wiling to give the cello a try. is it much harder then the trombone?
