Ya I play in my HS band. Me and my brother are the only ones ones who have have played it since beginning band. Then there is a kid who started playing it last year to fill up the third spot for marching band and teh a girl who switched from trumpet to fill my brothers spot when he graduates ( we only have three sousaphons). WE goof around so much during band class and we still manage to do better then all the other sections. It is so easy and everbody around us is always laughing and just haveing a good time.

Hey, I play tuba. There are two girl tuba players and one guy in my band. I can reach from the low Eb (below the low Bb) up to a high A or even G. But it took like 2 1/2 years and a marching season.

Tuba players rock. Without us the band would never be in tune!

Hi guys
I have been playing brass instruments (I have played all of them except for trombone) since the age of 10. Just to let you know, my name is Kathryn O`Neill and I play in Townsville Brass at the moment. Anyway, I would consider tuba to have the coolest sound out of a brass band, due to the low notes and the 12 bar blues type scaley stuff. I hope I would consider myself a very good player because, well at the age of 15, I managed to beat my music teacher who was versing me in the Queensland 1998 Open Tenor Horn solo in Rockhampton! Wow i couldn`t believe it either! Anyway, I have also been told I am a gifted sightreader. I think the reason I am very good very good at sightreading is because at school i always figured out maths problems fast in my head. Plus when i started trumpet in grade 5 (10yrs old), although I didnt know how to use my diaphragm properly for like bout 9 years, I was way bettet than the otehr kids at everything else, in particular sightreading. i was always way far ahead of the other kids because i had some crazy self discipline notion that i just HAD to practise at least one and 1/2hrs a day, even when my lips and jaw were killing me.

anyway, my range on the tuba is the F below bottom G flat (i can get taht note soemtimes) to about an octave above high C!!! so i hope this means i am good.

actually i do like tuba and all, but it has gotten to the point about after a year playing it taht there is absolutely NO challenge at all! I want to be on euphonium, but i dont think they will let me.. so ill just sulk on tuba for now. tell me guys what you think
ok my website is at www.psychopanic.com too

This was best reply until now for sure Well I expect more such mails... Well about the range is difficult to talk. It`s very relatively. For example if I play scale or chromatics or something I can play from very bottom G (on auxiliary 7th bottom line) up to F(above 2nd auxiliary line above)- on Bb Tuba of course. But if tempo and everything is fast my range is smaller or my tone is not so clean. We often do not realise, how many new thing we must to learn. And belive me, there is a lot of such things. Enjoy playing tuba!

Bye, Rok

holy crap, people here with come crazy ranges!

I`m Xavier, a Bb tuba player from Panama, I`ve been playing for little more than a year, i have a range from the Eb under the 4th line under the staff up to the A natural on the top line of the staff. Low notes don`t give me as much trouble as high notes, any tips on increasing my upwards range?
I currently play as the only sousa in the school band and tuba in a juvenile orchestra.

I will tell you a few things about playing high. Of course you will need to practice, but anyway some tips. Firstly you must breathe a lot of air. You do that with opening your `neck cave` and breathe very calmly. When you are filled up with air, you must push your diaphragm hard. For blowing air out you need to have your neck still opened. You can also cheat a litlle bit with upper lips, but almost nothing(it`s not nice). But mainly you will had to practice a lot

Hi i am a Junior High School tuba player and playing the tuba is my life(not really but it is close).I have been in solo that one other word i do not know how to spell and i get ones all the time to me that is an accomplishment.Well you can see that tuba`s rule and sound good in a band without one the band would fall apart.Thanks.
