Ive got a Washburn 5-string bass and the strings click on something whenever I play even the slightest bit hard. In fact, its difficult to play so soft that they dont click. What is making these clicks and how can I stop them?

Also, it is mainly on the B, E strings that I have this problem.

if your playing with a pick then it`s the sound of your pick striking the bass strings on the high notes, check the highs on your bass amp, your contours might be a little high,
and it might also be the pickups, if the pickups aren`t the greatest they may "click" or pop sometimes, could also be the cable you are using, it`s a variety of factors, don`t result to getting new pic ups if everything else doesn`t work.

Thanks for responding. I dont use a pick so thats not it. It might be the EQ I do have it in a sharp U shape...
I hope its not the pickups, I have some new EMG-P5s on there. I guess I will have to play around with the action and truss rod a little...

I know with my Cort Action IV, if I turn up the tone I get a click the minute I increase my attack even a touch. If you kill your tone and treble boost, and still get a click, it may very well be your EQ.

Maybe your pickups are too close to the strings. Try backing them off.
