Just last Sunday, I dropped $400 on the Fender Standard Jazz Bass V. It`s made south of the boarder and it`s good enough for me. I once asked the same question at a different bass board, and somebody told me that it`s the definition of the sound they give. Aparently a coupple hundred miles and a different assembly crew makes enough of a difference to make a clearer sound for the American modles. Also, from what I`ve heard, when the volume isn`t turned up all the way on the Standards, there`s some what of a buzz/hum. On the Americans, there is no problem like that.... or really shouldn`t be!

That was FUNNY!!!!!...the reply on the "couple hundred miles and a differnet asembly crew" that was CLASSIC!....I know my Fender Jazz V bass made in "Meh`ico" has an Alder Body, Maple neck...blah blah blah...but the pickups I think suck. That is where the real differences I believe lie...in the electronics...and I understand the materials are always just a little under the prime as far as wood choice etc....Like Epiphones by Gibson....just the quality of the Materials..but the Les Pauls by Gibson really dont play any better to me..I would rather buy the Epiphone and save $1500.00. Same with the Basses...Mexico made giuitars are fine....but if we keep buin` EM` from Mexico we support the loss of our Jobs here in United States...thats my only issue, even though I am guilty there in that dept....I really cant preach.

the differences;
wood types.
pick up quality.
and in case the was a more literal question...
mexican made fenders have an M in the serial number printed on the guitar.
go to fender web site. look at the specifications and u can print out 2 lists and compare exact difference.
but if u dont know why a certain wood, or pickup is better, maybe the cheaper guitar is for u.
my first electric guitar was a mexican made fender strat. amazing guitar.
^and if u get a new guitar set up correctly, there shouldnt be any buzzing. if there is, that guitar needs to go back to the store.

unless by buzzing u mean, the natural hum single coil pickups make? ( i read ur text wrong thought u meant fret buzz. )
yes more expensive pickups are silent. but on a well made Mexican the hum should prevent u from keeping ur volume all the way up.
