Here`s my situation. I`m transfering to a college that is very competitive in the jazz department. Up to this point, I`ve only played guitar, but my friend already at that college tells me I have almost no chance of getting into a jazz group as a guitar player. However, there`s a shortage of bass players. So...I`ve borrowed a bass...but I need some music to play. I bought the Mel Bay book for electric bass before I borrowed it, but I went through it less than a week, it only uses 3 key signitures, and there`s no book 2. It only teaches hammerstroke and alternating finger techniques (I`m guessing that`s standard in any book). Get this: They tell me to only play with my index and middle finger, which I`m fine with, but they show me a picture of pick and put in big letters over it, "This Is The Pick." ... Morons. Well...now, I don`t know what else to get. I can`t find anything. I`d like something that doesn`t start me off playing "Mary had a little lamb" and goes in depth with different techniques. Some work in all the key signatures would be cool. I have 5 months to become relatively proficient on bass, but I`m starting to think the lack of bass music available is really going to slow me down.
