My first bass was a Cort Action IV. Fantastic tone, great action, but the electronics were crap.

If you really want cheap, don`t be ashamed of it and just go into a guitar store and ask what their cheapest model is. That`s what my dad did without me wanting him to and that`s why I have my Epiphone Accu Bass. It was a cosmetically damaged ax so they marked it down a whole lot. It played normally enough, it was just a ding on the back corrner (not noticable from the front!) As they said, it was around $300, but it came down to $100. It was just my price range.

Go to www.rondomusic.com. Those basses are extremely cheap and you would think that they were a Fender MIM. I have A fretless jazz copy (that I upgraded with DiMarzio DP123s) and its amazing.
