Do you think that a Fender Guitar is a good guitar to start with?

yea its a great first guitar.
u have the standard strat for $350 US. (3 single coils pickups.) its made in mexico.
and the FAT strat $350 US. (2 single coils and a humbucker in bridge.) i highly recommend this if u play anything a little harder, anything needs at least one humbucker. also made in mexico.
fenders also carry a bunch of MIMex tele`s all in the same price range. great for rock, blues, and heavier with a pedal.
ive had my standard strat about 12 yrs.
just added a hot rails pickup to the bridge for a little more heavy sound. all in all. still sounds perfect.

also, alot of people find the fender strats easier to start on than other guitars because it is a little lighter and the neck is thinner than a Les paul copy.
there are squire fender copies, and u can find a good one if u look for it, but fender originals use better woods, pickups, and hardware.

because of the price u quoted im going to guess,
what u most likely have is a fender made delux "squier" strat, in black.
here is a picture of it in 3 tone.
http://www.americanmusical.com/images--i-FEN-321660-500.html
they are $250, and a very respectable beginners guitar.
just keep in mind even tho its made by fender, its a technically a level lower than the standard fenders, because it has the "squier" name on it.
so when u tell other guitar players u have a fender, u should say a squier fender, or when they see it they will correct u. all ur fellow guitar players are brand name snobs like me.
now its possible its not a squier and u just got a really good deal. so let me know what else is on the headstock.
anyway, very cool choice. LAter

yea the guitar that u showed me was the same but it was black and the white part on it was pearl white and it had little silvery gilttery things in it.
The store that i bought it from had a special going on that u could buy a New guitar, a pack pf picks, a pack pf guitar boomers, and a hard shelled case for $315 and that is a good deal

actually in almost every case the MIMex fender is better than any model squier.

If you are talking about an electric guitar, you really can`t go wrong with a Fender. I recommend Ibanez almost as highly, they have an amazing range of moderately priced quality guitars from acoustic/electric nylon string classicals to beautiful arch top jazz boxes to pointy metal-centric whammy bar specials. My only reservation with regard to Ibanez, this is more or less specific to me and probably doesn`t apply to you at all, is that all of their guitars (excepting the nylon string classicals) have skinny necks (in the 42 mm range). I hate guitars with skinny necks, so my recommendation for a beginning electric guitar that isn`t custom built by a luthier would be a Mexican Fender Fat Strat (more tones) or a similar Squire... with the skinny neck replaced in favour of a warmoth superwide (47.63 mm nut width) strat neck, which bolts right on without having to enlist the services of the afore mentioned luthier. I`d also pay a little extra and get the stainless steel fret wire (it will last longer, the ebony fretboard, and the pre-cut graphite nut. When your playing improves you put the warmoth neck on a better quality American made Strat or a G&L Comanche.
Of course, if you don`t have big hands or for whatever reasons prefer a skinny neck, then your choices in a first guitar are nearly infinite. If it wasn`t for the neck issue I`d be inclined to buy one of the new Gretsch double jet electromatics w/ bigsby (which are only $500 as opposed to $2000 for a Duo Jet)

ok.
i think mexican fenders are SOOOOOOOO much better tham squiers. wut r u saying! squiers have alot more cheaper wood than a mexican strat. i have a mexican fat strat and it has ALOT more array of sounds than a 150$ squeir. squiers are a great guitar for beginners though, but still is a squier and does not hold the bold fender name on the neck like a MIM

yeah i have a Mexican and compared to an american..they really don`t differ but a mexican compared to some indonesian squire...well yeah there is a difference...why else do you think they make em so cheap....the mexican strat is a great guitar for a begginer...you can do so much with it...and you can upgrade it in sooo many ways, when you get more advanced in your playing.

The squire standard is as good as a Mexican Fender. I have both. The Squire just may sound better.

most folk who bash the Squiers or pass them off as a cheap guitar have not played any of the ones made in the last couple of years. I did say STANDARD STRAT, Not Bullets, or Affinity. Go to the music store and play one. GOOD STRAT.
