No, it makes you a prick. Emo is a style of music and just because your sad and play music doesnt make you emo. Look at blues players, they are upset and play the blues.

No. Emo is different. You might be an emotional person and you feel writing is an outlet for your problems, which is how over 75% of writers create their songs. It just makes your songs real, you`re not emo.

Emo is like the punk version of love songs. What you`re using to write is your inspiration, which is a good thing, that comes out of something bad. Good luck man. Keep your sanity.

Emo is a daft shortening of emotional hardcore or thrash. its called emo cuz its about as far from melodic hardcore as you can get and it should be renamed pop-punk-with-pms, hey thats whats happens when ya sell out. Anyway, most musicians are inspired by emotions. whatever the emotions are by definition. `emo` bugs the hell out of me where once there were great songs like viola, there is now some kiddy singing to his goth girlfriend in a church. Funeral for a friend are passable but they`re just a watered down glassjaw. sorry rant over. In other words no, initial poster, otherwise we`re all emo and all screwed!

well in my opinion emo music/poetry really stands out for being bad. i guess it depends on the music, doesnt it. here are a few questions i would ask myself if i were you:
1. is this music centered simply around the break up and how miserable you are?
2. is the music really depressed and aingst-y?
3. do you cry when people give you criticis about your music?
if you said yes then you probably are part emo, but if not your music is just a way to express yourself.
