I`m trying out for guitar for jazz band but I can`t play the chords i can play the music fine but i can`t find the finger placement quick enough and then before i know it the measure is over. should i at least attempt playing the chord (even though it takes me like 5 min) or will it make me seem even more dumb?

This will definetly make you look like an ass. Practice more and you`ll be fine.
