I`ve had my Gibson LP for quite a while now. Previously I played a Strat and spent several years trying different strings until I found one`s that I REALLY liked. Now being that the LP is a totally different guitar with much different sound, I really don`t want to try 20 brands of strings again. In play mainly blues-rock and need moderate bend in my strings. And since the LP makes the low E sound really bassy, I`ve been swaying more towards lighter gauge. Am I right to do this? Anyone have suggestions about strings they like or have used. The local guitar shop talked me into Fender 150s last time and I think they`re crap. Thanks all...

Strings are definitely a personal preferrence, so to a point you do need to try out a few different sets to find what you like on your L.P. When people bring them to me for a set up, I recommend using at least a .010-.046 set. L.P.s have a flatter fingerboard than Strats and I`ve found that if you go lighter than .010-.046, you lose quite a bit of tone. Again, experiment a bit--if you go really light on strings, you can also find it tougher to play in tune. The strings will bend from your normal finger pressure even when playing chords.
The other piece of advice I would offer is have your guitar set up by a professional--especially if you are changing string gauge. It creates changes in neck tension and intonation settings. Good luck!

I would have to agree. The minumum gauge string to use on a les paul should be a .10 set. .09`s are way to week to get the sustain on a les paul going well enough.
