ok just strum the open string then hit the string on the fret that you want with a pretty good amount of force. it should change pitch to the fret you should be now holding down. very easy just takes some practice to get used to

hammer ons are a simple technique to use, but you need to train your fingers as always and build up the skin on your fingers.

To perform a hammer on, you fret a note, and then whilst it is ringing , you use another finger to thump down on another fret (on the same string) to perform a hard transition between two notes.
