Firstly, i`m only just 5 ft with tiny hands, i tried one of the full size dreadnought guitars that my friend has and it doesn`t even fit on my knee let alone being able to reach the strings! I`m about the same size as an eleven year old, but i`d feel demoralised playing with a childrens guitar if i get good enough to play in our band...also if i learn on a smaller guitar, will that impair my ability to play normal size? It will won`t it.
Secondly, my guitar needs to be transportable as i catch a plane and train a lot, i want something i can strap to my back ideally,
I want a smaller guitar that doesn`t compromise quality and tone. I want a guitar i can play all my favourite rock tunes on without being electric.
What should i be looking for. Please help!

If you`re looking for a high-quality acoustic, Taylor makes an acoustic guitar that comes in 3/4 size, so it is a bit smaller than the average acoustic. Though I recommend Taylor`s because, personally, I like their tone very much, I believe that Alvarez also makes a 3/4 acoustic.

I agree--a Baby Taylor is a good way to go. Even though it`s a smaller guitar, the construction & tone are better than most...it`s also very servicable.
Good Luck
