I just got a guitar over the holidays and I feel I`m making really good headway. One thing is really giving me a challenge though: timing.
For instance, how would I play the following:
G / / / C / / /
All my bags are packed, I`m ready to go
G / / / C / / /
I`m standing here outside your door
G / / / C / / / D ///////
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
G / / / C / / /
But the dawn is breakin` it`s early morn
G / / / C / / /
The taxi`s waitin` he`s blowin` his horn
G / / / C / / / D ///////
Already I`m so lonesome I could die
Or say if I was strumming away on C Major in Common Time, would I hit the bass chord once and strum the other strings three times?
I know timing is something a musician must work on over time, but I would totally appreciate any advice or recommendations anybody would have! Thanks!

all i can tell u is that it comes w/ time. The basis of that song you put on your post is the chords but the slash`s count as a stroke. up stroke or down stroke im not sure you`ll have 2 figure out that on your own.

Your song's in 4/4 time, so sing the words as you play and let your light pick play the rhythm in down-up strokes; sometimes it will be a syncopated rhythm (uneven), but just keep the strumming going and you'll find your correct strum.
