Hey guys - I am very new to guitar. I have been reading some sheet music and I have been seeing chords that are put together like this:

(Am/G)

(C/B)

Are these some kind of new chord, or something else entirely?

Sorry, but I have completely no idea what to do, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mr. Chocolate

these are split chords. visit http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/index.php?ch=Am/C to see examples of split chords. hope this helps.

ok so i'm prbably not going to explain this very well and a bit of serching the tinterweb will probably make it make more sense.

ok so they are inversion chords!

lets take the c chord as our example

c major is made up of C E G and a high C this if it is played in order is called an agpegio and if played together is a major chord

the low C is the lowest note in the chord

ok you with me up till now????

C/E would have the same notes in it but the e would be the lowest note in the chord....it is still the same chord but with a slight change in tone

ie C/E
would be E C G C

C/G
would be G C E C

hope this helps with the theory...but like the chap above said your best bet is just to find a good quality chord chart on the 'tinterweb

take care Jamjar Jacob

i call them inversion chords but the chappie is quite right they are also often called split chords!
