Well, I`ve been playing Clarinet for about 2 years now. (Yes, I know it`s not a very long time.) And I was thinking of playing guitar as well. But I can`t decide if I want an electric or just a normal guitar. Taking in the factor of which one would be eaiser. Any suggestions?

Oh, and also I was wondering what kind of brand would be good for begginers. And if I bought a certain one of that brand, how much should I be paying for it?

Start With an acoustic. If you can Play an acoustic you can jam out on anything. Acoustic`s are harder to play, But trust me, start with it. Start With a Jasmine Acoustic. They start at around $100. There are many diffrent guitars out there so don`t get mislead on the price!! Just cuzz a guitar look`s cool does not mean it`s a good Guitar!! Stick with names like Fender, Ibanez, Washburn, Jackson, and ESP just to name a few. You might spand a little bit more money, but in the world of guitar`s you get what you pay for. I started on a 6 string Jasmine Acoustic. Now I play An electric guitar, bass, and elec/Acou. Guitar all made by Ibanez. I also play a acou. Fender 12-string. After you play for a bit Try playing a 12 string. It`s like starting over again. I hope to get a letter back from you with an update. If you need some hint`s let me know I`ll help out.

acoustic is harder on your fingers at first. but if you get electric you`ll have to get a pickup and an amp and everything.. so do acoustic first to get used to the chords. like previously said, after your fingers get used to the acoustic, electric will be a breeze. don`t get a cheap one though- a cheap guitar will NEVER sound good, not even if eric clapton was playing it!

If you`re a beginner I`d suggest not having an electric just yet, normal iz best 4 beginners, as you get to know all da notes and stuff and get quite good move onto an electric then.

Heavier really. You might have on a log cause some electric guitars are really light. halo body for example. It,s the same thing than an accoustic guitar but you have a pick-up plus a different shape and different sound. I wonder why every one on this web site worry about hw weigh of the instruments. I mean dont chose the instrument you`ll play considering if you`ll have back problem maybe if you`re practicing always stood-up and possibly when you`ll be about 50 years old you`ll have back problem. But maybe you`ll fall off your chair while blowing in your carinet, also. God knows. Play what you feel like.

Yeah. I started out about 5 months ago and I got a Squier electric guitar. It is awesome. I say get an electric because it will increase your liking for the instrument of guitar because it is more experimental than the acoustic. You can make more types of sounds with an electric than an acoustic. So i would say electric.

I`m sorry, but it is NOT about which is easier or harder to play OR which is lighter or heavier. The decision of which guitar to buy should be What KIND of music do you want to play the most?
If it`s rock, blues, modern country, or jazz then buy an electric. If it`s classical, then buy a classical (nylon-strung acousitc). If it`s folk, fingerstyle blues, acoustic rock, bluegrass, or old country then buy a steel-string acoustic.
Remember, most guitar players end up with a collection of guitars in the long run. Most have at least three -- an electic, an acoustic, and a classical. Start off with what meets your needs/interests for now, then save up for a new one when other interests/needs arise.
Also, check around the stores in your area. Alot of music stores rent instruments, which would give you a chance to try out an electric or acoustic for a while so you can see what really feels right.
Best wishes!

if i were you id get an acoustic because theyre better to start off with and you can get them for cheap so you can decide if you like the guitar or not. also you have to get an amp for an electric so start off with a decent acoustic and go from there!
