I am thinking about starting guitar but i don't know where to find a good reliable cheap acoustic guitar. Any ideas? I have a music shop not to far away but i don't know what to look for in a guitar either. Are they all the same, when it comes to acoustic? New and confused Need some guidance!

Talk to the shop owner about it, they'll be able to help, and try out different makes and types before you actually buy to see which one suits you.

If you don't mind buying online, check out samash.com

Not all acoustics are the same. The main thing you want is reliability? Then you must make sure it has good tuners. If it can stay in tune, you're in business. Gibson makes Epiphone, Fender makes Squier, I have a beginners Yamaha that still is awesome after 39 years. Cost $110 back then. These manufacturers have the experience to make guitars that won't be sent back to them for repairs. There are others. You don't get a super sound for cheap but you can get to playing. Later you can upgrade to non laminated fancy stuff.

They definitely are NOT all the same and if you get a cheap piece of junk you will regret it. Look for signs of solid craftsmanship -- no warping in the body or fretboard, frets evenly set and nicely finished off (no rough edges), no noticeable flaws in the finish. Check out the action (the height of the strings above the frets) to see if it suits you. Play the instrument yourself or, if you're not capable of doing that well, get somebody in the shop to play it so you can hear its sound. (If they're knowledgeable about guitars they should have at least one decent guitar player around.)

If you don't want to commit to spending a lot of money (several hundred dollars at least) you might try to find a store with a rent-to-own program. That way if you decide to stick with the guitar you can apply the rent toward the purchase price of the instrument you rented or, sometimes, another instrument.

Good luck and have fun!

This is a very tough common problem for guitarists. I'd go to a guitar store and look at the used guitar section. Any new guitar under 150$ these days is not very good. do not buy your guitar at stores like wal-mart,zellers, and sears they are cheap but they sound horrible. The best cheap guitar would be an Ibanez.
