im interested in starting guitar, im currently undecided between acoustic and electric, i think an acoustic might be better to learn on since it has thicker strings.
any advice on what kind of instrument to get and technique tips, etc would be much appreciated.

Acoustic. I think you get the whole guitar basics better on the acoustic then the electric. Once you know the basics on acoustics go for electrics and get the basics, like the bending of strings the main power chords, and stuff like that.

Electric. Anything that you can learn on one, you can learn on the other. Because it has thicker strings, and acoustic is harder to play. You should definetly start with an electric.

I think it is just a matter of opinion. I would suggest acoustic , just because you can learn the basics such as where to place the had for strumming.

The best option would be both, but that's expensive :P

Honestly, it doesn't really matter. I learned on acoustic but some of the best guitarists I've played with spent their first few years only playing on electric. It comes down to what kind of music you're interested in, then pick electric or acoustic depending on what is best suited to the music. If you want to become really good you need to practice, so practice the stuff you like.

it'd be easier to start with acoustic, because that's what people ,mainly use in lessons, but everyone gets an electric guitar afterwards anyway, plus getting nylon strings would be easier.

Check with one of the professionals on www.ziplesson.com - You can reserve a skype music lesson with one of the many guitar professionals there and get started playing the right way immediately.

Best,
