can I please have some info on bass guitar? and how and why to start?

Bass guitar is almost halfway between a drum and a guitar sometimes, it plays low notes over underneath the chords or the melody that the main guitars are playing. It`s for ensemble (if you`re into classical music, i.e. acoustic bass) or for band (i.e. electric bass). If you want to play acoustic bass I`d say screw it and learn a double bass violin and play with fingers, nicer sound and you get to spin the bass on its spike.

Electric Bass is the coolest thing on the planet sometimes, it usually plays only one note at a time and yet can completely change the song that its playing along to (download What Is This Note? by the Eels to see how a bass line can pretty much lead the song).

Then of course there are super fast bass solos, where you play very fast and show off lots and look generally rather cool. That is hard. Also there`s slap bass, which is the same except sounds a bit more twangy and violent. That`s even harder.

To start just get some easy bass tabs and play along to some music until you get the timing and stuff right. Its just like normal guitar except bigger frets. If you wanna play fast bass coolness get someone who knows how to teach you, teaching yourself is kinda tricky. Oh yeah and you`ll need a good amp.
