Hi. I`ve got an Ibanez RG1527 (7-string) and I`m having a lot of trouble with the bridge/tremolo. Basically, I`ve changed the strings so I can goto to a different tuning (up to CGCFADG instead of down to BEADGBE). The thing is that every time I tune the strings, eventually they come untuned very quickly (tuning themselves lower) and I have to constantly keep tuning them higher. Everytime I do, the bridge keeps getting pulled higher and higher and I cant find a way of keeping it down! Not without loosen all the strings again. I hope that made sense.

There`s no screws or anything to bolten the bridge down, only a couple of screws on the sides near the top which alter the action. I`ve messed around tightening those, but it doesnt seem to make a difference. If I do them too tight, the action is too low and the problem still continues.

Any one get any ideas, anyone?...please?

Ok, sounds to me that you need to try putting thinner strings on it. My reasoning is this, if you have thick strings and your tune it higher it pulls tighter which could cause it to raise up as you said. Although, if you acquire strings of a smaller radius then they will not have as much pressure to be tuned up higher as you were planning to do(or you were tuning it down almost an octave??). Anyways that is my advice for you I`ve been playing guitar for around two years although I am very dedicated to it. If this doesn`t work you spent around 6 dollars on strings to try to correct the problem. Anyways I hoped this provided some help for you

Michael,

The cause of your problems is that you have changed tension of your strings.

Guitars fitted with floating bridges use springs to balance the tension of the strings. When you change gauge / tension of strings you break this balance and your problems begin.

It is reasonably easy to fix once you know how. If you are new to playing guitar I would probably get a shop to fix it.

If you feel confident, change the springs yourself and refine the position using the tensioning screws.

Also, it is not practical to try alternate tunings on a floating bridged guitar.
