ok 2 things...

I`ve been playing guitar for 11 years (since i was 6) and I can tell you that a couple of years ago i mastered the tune in question. Its all about practice and perfection...put simply your teacher is lying. It is indeed possible to play such a tune...pretty hard if you are a beginner i guess, but then everyone was a beginner once, so you just need to practice. if you find its a bit `jerky` in places a bit of rubato could help the junctions feeling smooth. it is very much the same thing in the Rodrigo Concerto de Aranjuez which i am performing next month. its all about communicating with the music and allowing yourslef to think about a story. a simple one that really helped me was the ball which rolls down the hill and then up the next one, but slows down and speeds up as it reaches the bottom junctions and top crests. its easily doable, just practice and `feel` the music.

Good Luck!

oh...could somone send me a version of the piece as well...all this talk of it has made me want to play it again! notated would be best, but tab is fine if its all that is available!

cheers

I been playing a CG for about 7 months,(but have been playing other guitars for 20 years),the finger picking is weird to me, but i`m catching on.I got good beginner books like Parkening Method 1 and an Aaron Shearer book that helped me w/right hand position technique, Cavatina was a piece i wanted to learn right away. I dont take lessons, i got the tab from weed`s website, and i`m about 3/4 of the way through the piece. My buddy,(soon to be a jazz guitar teacher),says i`m playing the piece really good. I still have stop and go spots that i have to work on, but a little more time and i`ll get it! also,I use a metronome! Set it slower and work up a bit when playing it better.
Dude, if your paying a teacher $15-$20 a half hour, he better show you what you want to learn!!! Lose him!!
A really good recording of Cavatina is done by Angel Romero off of his "a touch of class" CD. Get it!!!its an awesome version of this song, i dont care for John Williams version because of too much keyboard overkill. I cant hear the guitar that good. Romero`s version is IN YOUR FACE,all guitar, no effects!

Been playing for 10 years, learnt cavatina last year.

It isn`t so hard and CAN be played by one person. The key is hand movements -the transitions must be smooth.

Play it slowly as usual, and focus on each bar without concerning yourself with changes too soon. Once you can play each position smoothly then at a very slow speed work at changing without losing your pace.

A moderate player could learn this in a year easily with enough practice. I think some people talk pieces up so as to look like virtuoso`s, but honestly this isn`t so hard with practice.

Just don`t be a retard and play it too fast straight out else it`ll never sound good.

I found a .gif image of the 3 page cavatina sheet music online on some korean school`s site. I suggest if you search hard you will find a workable copy, but please try not to use tabs.

Utter rubbish. You can download the sheet music over the net. John Williams plays it on his own!!! Admittedly he has been playing for longer than one year but you have got something to aim at... I was able to play it after 3 years

Good luck

Hi! If you try to play Cavatina (which is a musical term) by the original score of Stanley Myers, I would say it is not technically possible however, you can get pretty close to the original, try
www.classtab.org and go to Myers, there you will find tab for Cavatina. I can`t play it to the original music but I get pretty close! I am reliably informed that John Williams double tracked his version and I can`t find any reference to Julian Bream having recorded it - pity! Happy playing!

If anyone is still interested ... go to - http://www.galo-gutierrez.com/photo_album.htm - and, though brief, you will be able to hear Cavatina the way it was dreamt to be played. Smooth, clean, crisp, clear, ... hypnotic. While I have the honor of knowing this artist, I am, in no way, selling his wares. He has none to be sold. He has been begged, for years, to make a CD, and continues to say, "I`m working on it." Watching the man play this piece is almost as good as hearing him play it. It is, possibly, my favorite piece of music, so I am not quick to give favor to most renditions. This is a find.
