MSN Messenger Jam Session

I would like to try jamming with some one on MSN messenger 6.1. It would be like doing a voice chat but instead of talking we would be jamming. I have a small 8 channel mixer running into the line in on the the back of my computer so I could have a mic, my guitar and bass all hooked up at the same time. I`ve played for friend this way before, so I know it could work, I`ve just never tried it with another musician.

If you`re considering doing this with me you must have a couple of things. A pentium3 or faster computer, high speed connection like cable or dsl and live in the continental US. I live in the midwest region of the USA. And last some sort of instrument to computer interface, Like a small mixer. Guitar and bass players would need this. If you are a keyboard player you can plug right into the line in on the back of the computer. Most keyboards are line level so it would work perfectly. If your a woodwind horn player. I would suggest you use a mixer and a couple of mics. Brass would only need one mic.

My only concern would be delay. I`ve talked with people and seems like we are talking with no delay, But its hard to tell. I hope this works, If it does I`ll start a jam session comunity chat room on msn. I think it might work with some poeple better than others. I`m willing to try this several times. If it works with 1 out of 10 people its worth it because you could meet alot of people this way. Eventually everybody will find someone that there conection really works well with and once you meet them you can jam all the time.

To get msn messenger goto http://messenger.msn.com download, install and register. Its free. After your all done with that go to add contact and add Ionianmike@charter.net My screen name is JazzMan. If I`m not online you wont be able to see me. It will say offline. When I do come online Instant message me and say (Jamey Aebersold forum sent me to you to jam) so I`ll know why you are contacting me.

Thanks
Ionianmike

Ok, I think Ive found a program that will work alot better than msn messenger, It`s called "Skype" its a peer to peer voice chat software and has the best compression technology. It sound like you are talking at very close to cd quality, with no delay.

I was talking to a friend in europe with it. "he`s the one who told me about it". And it was awesome. No delay. Just like talking on phone, no lag.

This program is free and you`ll have to register it, and set up a screen name. If you do decide you want to try this with me, my screen name is "JazzMan68".

To get this program goto http://www.skype.com

I hope to get a Skype call from one of you soon. If i`m not online the call wont go through. Im usually on from 8am to 2pm and any time after 9pm us central time zone. Remember my id is "JazzMan68" and for msn messenger "ionianmike@charter.net"

Hope to jam with a couple of you soon.

A buddy of mine is trying to get me to do a similar thing using PalTalk. www.paltalk.com

He`s got a room there. It seems that there are free set ups and actual accounts for business meetings and such.

Just thought you might like to give it a look.
