At the same price, both are equal, except Ibanez has a better reputation. Squier has been seen as a learner`s guitar but Fender of course is marketing and adding features & cost to change that perception. Strat Man Dwight

Washburn Lyon and Epiphone also have some pretty impressive, lower cost guitars which are good for a beginner. I just tried out an Epiphone SG with bolt on neck, and put it on layaway for one of my son`s friends. It played great and sounded good through a small Marshall amp. Strat man Dwight
