I decided that I want to play the electric guitar and someone told me I should start out with a cheap Wal-Mart guitar--b/c I don`t want to pay more than $200 for something right now--they`re like $90. But then again I just want to go ahead and get an electric guitar..what should I do?

Buy a good one at a music store, one that won`t fall apart or be impossible to play. Yamaha, Epiphone, Squier starter pack, all around $400 or less. Strat man Dwight

I have just helped a friend of my son`s choose an Epiphone SG for less than $250 Canadian. It played great and the guy will buy a Marshall 15 watt amp to go with it. There is also a tag with the Epiphone showing that it has had a 17 point inspection, test & setup at the Gibson factory in Nashville. By contrast some of the other guitars, including the Squier and Yamaha had higher action and weren`t as comfortable to play. It seems that some of these guitars from Taiwan do not like our climate, unless they are set up upon arrival. Strat man Dwight

You should get a C-40 guitar type, it costs $130 or around there. they aren`t the best ones but they have a good sound

Stephanie, you started this thread in May, it`s now November and you left us hanging here. Others will now be debating the merits of Yamaha - Epiphone - and possibly substandard Squiers for the next decade. Are you still there? What did you buy? And please say a little about your efforts to date, enough so we know you are the "real Stephanie". Hope all is well. Strat man Dwight

Oh, please excuse one big thing. I went back to see that you started the thread in May, but there were NO ANSWERS till mine in November. You are exonerated if there has been no feedback, you probably went to another forum where people reply hourly, daily ... www.guitarsite.com??? Strat man Dwight
