My strings smell really strongly of metal and it rubs off on my fingers after I play, should I be worried??? thank you so much for any help.

There are two likely problems with your strings. One is that the strings are old and need to be replaced. I don`t know how old they are so you have to decide. A common rule for me is to replace them once a month at least. The other possibility is that your fingers produce too much acid for the strings to handle. In which case you need to go to your local music store and have them recommend you a nicer set of strings that won`t wear down too easily. I personally use Ernie Ball Super Slinky Pinks, but a friend of mine uses D`Addario Super Lights. What you get depends upon what price you are willing to pay and what you need. Hope this helps.

Both my brother and I play guitar and he was recomended a cleaner to help the strings last longer. He was told to spray it on a no lint cloth and then rub the cloth over the strings after he is done playing it really does help. The name of it is Tone Finger - ease Guitar String Lubricant. It works wonders plus it does more then just stopping the smell. It cleans the strings. Makes it easier to do fret changes and believe it or not it helps with the tenderness and the callouses if you are just learning. We got ours at Dave Phillips Music and Sound. Don`t know if you live by one but they are nice stores.

Hey, if you`re not done here yet, try Elixirs with polyweb coating. I`m not selling them, just using them. The coating isolates any dirt, skin & acid from the metal winding underneath, also give them a wipe with a dry lint-free cloth after playing and it`ll do `ya! Strat man Dwight

Anybody trying those Elixir Strings yet? Mine are still clean & bright, no dirt or other issue. These are lasting me a long time. Most people don`t buy them becaise they cost more. They`re worth it. My second choice, for changing often are D`Addarios. They are bright sounding too, but not as long lasting or easy to clean. Playing 4 decades, Strat Man Dwight
