I have Fat-O-Caster switches in some of my Strats. Got the 10 sound, the V2, the V3 with 13 sounds and the 16 sound Chromacaster. Now I see a new web page at www.deaf-eddie.net showing a new product, the Memphis Fats. Has anybody tried any of these yet? Comments or suggestions please? Thanks, Strat Man Dwight

Thanks Hugh for the email. Yes the Chromacaster is one of the rotary switches from deaf-eddie which actually has 16 sounds. If you are sensing 12 or more tones, you`re getting close to recognizing them all. Another variant, the V3 actually has a total of 12 sounds. The difference is the Cromacaster has some more out of phase combinations. You can tell if its a Chromacaster mainly because it has 5 clicks, I think, or 6 positions. I`m surprised the person who sold you the Strat didn`t know much about it. You should request the tone chart for free via the contact link at www.deaf-eddie.net. Good to hear from another Fender & possibly Chromie nut. Strat man Dwight - P.S. sorry I didn`t answer your email direct, appreciate your enthusiasm. Woulda been nice on the forum for everyone else too!

I forgot to mention the Deaf-Eddie V3 mod can be installed with 13 sounds optional, instead of 12. I did it easily in about an hour altogether. To get the extra tone you just clip one of the ground wires and add an extra lead. Instructions come with these switches, and the tone charts. They work with Stratocaster-clone guitars too. I posted a review of that one called "Lucky 13" on wwww.harmonycentral.com. I would really love to hear what others have to say about any of their guitar modifications on the forum, particulary the new Memphis Fat switch, that I haven`t tried yet. Thank you. Strat man Dwight

I think I made a typo which I`m sure you saw - there`s only 3 w`s of course in www.harmonycentral.com. The Deaf-Eddie mods for guitars are actually under pickups. That`ll make it easier to find, though google search works as well. Strat man Dwight

Holy shht I like that Deaf-Eddie.net site. I had only heard that such things were possible for Strat cats, like me. If it`s true, there`s gotta be some way cool sounds, and at least 9 more lives for my tired old axe.

Good luck. I hope you try the Memphis Fat "Strat" Mod, one of them. The others are fantastic, so I think the new ones could only offer more tone & versatility. Certainly works for the blues. My Strats with deaf-eddie mods are hard rockin` axes as well. Anything from jazz to metal and all things inbetween. Strat man Dwight

I read on another forum you put 29 sounds on a Stratocaster. What does that mean. You got 29 tones, are they differnt. Most I ever heard was Brian May from Queen with Burns guitar got 24 toggles. What the? U 4 real?

I asked Deaf-Eddie for a custom wiring diagram for a Stratocaster with 2 stacks and a single coil pickup. Then I decided to go with all 3 stacks. He came up with 29 sounds then I built it myself. It uses coil splitting of course, and many different series combinations. Fender normally wires their guitars in parallel, which misses alot of potential. By the way, there is not a single toggle or anything different about the look of the guitar now. It appears completely stock. The magic is in one of the rotary switches from Deaf-Eddie which replaces one of the tone controls. The remaining tone control is a master tone with a push/pull switch. It`s not for everyone, especially purists, but I am enjoying it immensely. It`s as close in sound as I have ever seen to about the top 20 brand names, all in one instrument. For simplicity, cheaper cost and incredible versatility, I recommend the
Chromacaster switch for close to $30 . You get 16 tones with it. Read about it at www.harmonycentral.com., user review, under pickups. But I will soon go for the new Memphis Fat Mod - anyone else using it yet? Strat man Dwight

My favourite Deaf-Eddie mod is the Fat-O-Caster for Fatties with 11 sounds. It`s on my fat Strat, with 2 Texas Specials and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates full size humbucker. Some of you may know that`s a Lonestar. I also have a 10 sound Fat-O-Caster with 3 single coils. It was the easiest to modify, and a mega ton of fat tone, due to pickups in series, like humbuckers.

Appreciate the opinion, including on the 10 sound. That`s actually he one I started with, and still have it on an American Standard Stratocaster. People freak out at the tone they hear coming from that thing. They can`t believe it has just 3 single coils, no humbucker. Most guys think I`ve done something with the amp or compressor or a possible effect somewhere along the line. But no, it`s a very fat fat fat sounding Strat. Do you get weird reactions from other players too? These mods are hard to keep to yourself and there`s the thing that you have to deal with. You like to have something unique and total kick-axe, but if you use it, it stands out, and next thing your buddies get one, and they`re all over the place. Well, not quite, just becoming more & more popular. So, I`m hoping the Memphis Fat mods are the latest & greatest & unique again. Strat man Dwight

I think that these mods are exclusive to www.deaf-eddie.net. I`m not complaining. Look at the price only $20 - $30. I liked what I saw, read reviews at www.harmonycentral.com and install my own. You can also get a handyman or guitar tech for the hour`s work. As I said to someone else earlier, when you have all these tone secrets in your guitar, and it looks stock from the outside, the issue is do you keep it secret? - maybe if you like to surpirise or impress others - or share the info? Chances are most players don`t know that a Stratocaster can produce 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 29 different sounds! And it works on non-Fender & entry-level guitars, but if you take it one step at a time, start with the mod, you may want to upgrade or customize with aftermarket or handwound pickups as I have done. Good luck. Strat Man Dwight

Happy Saturday everybody! Any of you readers and guitarists got any stories about your guitar mods, goodies or secret weapons? I wanna hear something about any hot rods and your tone! Today, I`m building another V2 "Rockit Strat" and will add a DiMarzio stack. Got another 25 buck mod switch in the mail from www.deaf-eddie.net. Strat man Dwight

I got a hot Tele to twang and give those les Pauls a run for their money. But it`s a secret. Just kiddin`. Started with a hum cancelling neck pickup from Seymour Duncan, not Hot Rails but a humbucker stack. Then I put a pull activated tone pot on, and what you wanna hear, a free rewiring of a new 5 way superswitch from deaf-eddie, so he does Tele`s too but it didn`t cost, just for my own parts and it was worth every penny man. I call it the Big Ben. And the crowd goes wild!
