Ok maybe it`s not so big but I need advice on somehting because I myslef am a piano player and know nothing about guitars. My younger brother is intrested in starting to play an instrament and he was thinking about playing the bass. Now from the people I`ve been talking to, I`ve found out that almost everyone that plays bass started out playing the guitar first. I heard that it`s easier to play bass after you`ve learned guitar first because then you`ll know the fret board or something. Anyways I guess my question is should he take up guitar first or go straight into bass?

A common misconception is a guitar is just like a bass and if you`re good at guitar, you`ll be good at bass. Although this is true to a certain extent, I must recommend learning one or the other. They both use different techniques and bass requires the player to develop finger strength more so than the guitar. I am both a guitarist as well as a bassist. I learned guitar first and it didn`t help that much to learn the bass.
