I`m teaching myself to play, heres a stupid question. When you get sheet music, what do the chord names above certain measures/notes mean? Am i supposed to play this chord for that whole measure? For the note directly under it? because the notes in the measure are often single notes not chords.
Any help is greatly appreciated

I`m a self taught player also. I believe that the chord shown over the measure is for the rythym guitar. Just a cord that accompanies the lead.
