What kind of music are you interested in playing? Jazz, classical, rock (specific), country etc. The style of music would help determine what kind of guitar. If you have time, I definitely recommend taking lessons. I taught myself for 4 years then took lessons. I discovered much of my techniques were horribly wrong and once I fized them, I became a much better guitarist.

I`d recommend either a Les Paul or Stratocaster. Your best bet is to go to a shop and try out different models. Guitars are like food, everyone has different taste, so just find your preference. Hope that helps.

depends on ur taste. gibsons (les paul)use humbuckers for their noise. and fender strats (squier) use piezo. gibsons are a deeper sound, pop-punk, rock. strats are high tones, like U2. thats all generally, cause both sounds work well together. ESP, Schecter are heavier Humbucks. i collect guitars and probably like my strat the best this month. Go to Ultimate guitar. pick a fav song learn the chords and move on from there. good luck

I HAVE A GIBSON LES PAUL, A FENDER STRAT. IBANEZ WITH A FLOYD ROSE TREM AND A PALM BAY WITH A FLOYD ROSE. AN IBANEZ IS THE BEST FOR ROCK IF U LIKE THE VAI ROUTE, FOR BLUESEY ROCK I WOULD SAY STRAT OR GIBO MY PALM BAY IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD AND ITS AMAZING. THE BOTTOM LINE IS YOU`VE GOT TO GET OUT THERE AND TRY`EM ALL DUDE.

I recommend Fender Strats, but thats just me...If youre a Hendrix, Clapton, Beck fan then get one...It just depends on your style of playing...definitely take lessons-it will make a huge difference.

i`m a self-taught guitarist and have just been mucking around on my dads acoustic for a bit over a year and ive got pretty handy. the one thing that i haven`t learnt because of not having lessons is how to use a pick. they just stuff me up and im no good at all with them so i finger pick. its tonnes easier for me to fingerpick though coz ive learnt bass guitar for nearly 3 years
