I have recently come into aquisition of a guitar. It;s a fender knockoff, made sometime in the 60`s. I seem to be having a problem with it though.
To start off, I started playing the guitar when I took a guitar class in my school around a month and a half ago. We use the classical guitar in my class.
The one problem I seem to have with this electric is that the strings are too close together, and the neck seems small. In short I can`t play chords worth crap. I measured the neck and at the first fret it measures 1.5 inches in width.
Is there any secret to playing electric that I don`t know about? The problem is that the strings are too close together, so when I press my finger down to play a chord it`s always just slightly touching another string thus making a really bad sound (from the string vibrating off my finger). I have to really try hard to get it so he strings dont tough the edge of my fingers but how could I play like that?
Does anyone have any playing tips? I`d much rather play at home with my electric than one of the schools acoustics.

ok first off, u dont have to go from one extreme to another. there are electrics with slightly larger fretboards.
in general, fenders are more narrow. some players like the quickness they can get from a smaller neck. les pauls, gibsons and over brands have wider necks.
to get the guitar thats right for u, u have to try some different types at a guitar store.
but also i notice u mentioned ur a sort of new to playing, and so u know, hitting 2 strings and not getting a clean sound when u strum, is a very common problem when u`re just starting out. as u practice u learn to hold the strings with just the tips of ur fingers. that comes with time.
also keep in mind, im not sure if ur model is some some sort of scaled down 3/4 size guitar because i havent seen it.
