I started since a couple months back (and im self-taught), my first pieces were souvenirs d`enfance and marriage d`amour, both played partially by ear and partially by eye.

Currently working on sightreading some final fantasy (and some other miscellaneous) pieces.

I have been playing 2 years. Trust me, with my teacher I already have level 6 piano. She makes me play Hanon all day and all that other stuff. So my first song was Toccata, the fourth movement from Kabalevsky`s four rondos

I have been in actual lessons for 5 years (this will be my 6th), although there`s been a piano in my house all of my life. It`s not necessary for you to know my age. =P

As for my first piece, it was something from the Alfred series... Old Macdonald, probably. All on black keys. haha

how long have you been playing and what`s the first song you learned?    12:13 on Monday, August 22, 2005

well i started teaching myself about a month or two before i started with lessons (when i was 17 i think?!) then i had lessons for a year and passed my grade 5. stopped lessons now, only because i was teaching in south africa on my gap year and now i can`t afford it with uni etc, so back to self-teaching! (which is fun!!)

my first piece was fur elise, on a 4 octave keyboard lol, taught myself right hand to memory, then taught myself what bass clef was lol so i could learn and add in the left hand. still love playing it!!

i think you should learn at whatever age you want. ok, so you maybe have a better chance if you learn at four instead of forty - but it puts a lot of ppl off for life, being forced to learn in childhood.

i am 19 and passed my grade 5 after 11 months or so, so it can`t all be bad!! i am higher than a friend who learnt for 10 years, she is grade 4, but she is a better sight-reader on most levels because obviously she is more experienced than me (and probably just a better sight reader too!!)

keep up the good work, regardless of your ages!!!

I`ve been officially playing for about 3 years. I can`t remember the first song I ever learned, but the first advanced work was either "Moonlight sonata" mov.1, mov. 2, or Fur Elise. I`m now 15 years old. Now I`m learning Beethoven`s 25th Sonata. I think it`s the funnest to play.

There`s no such thing as too old or too young as far as music goes, regardless of what that other person said Paul. I think it`s great that you`re picking up and wish you the best of luck! I`m sure you`ll enjoy it.

Anyways, on topic now, I`m 16 and have only had 1 lesson, I taught myself how to read music and stuff over the last couple months before I ever had a lesson. I`m not very good yet and the best thing I`ve played so far is Moonlight Sonata 1st movement by Beethoven, but I enjoy it and I`ll get better in time, and that`s all that matters. =)
