I`m old. I`m 80 years old. I have played since my parents bought me a piano at the age of 8. So I have been playing for 72 years. I still do today, even though I`m not in good health.

If I had played continually for all those years I`d be great! I started at age 5, took lessons through 6th grade, then quit thinking I`d just keep it up on my own. I went on to violin so got lax on the piano. A little advice--keep it up! You`ll regret it when you`re older if you don`t. I have worked my way back up to being halfway decent, but not near where I could be. A friend my age has a doctorate in music and plays piano like a concert pianist--and I realize I could have been that good (or nearly) if I had just kept at it. So keep at it, even if it`s only a couple of times a week.

I started piano when I was 9 and now I`m 21. I quit lessons when I was 13 and have played almost everyday. The thing is, I know very little music theory and I have great difficulty reading music so I have to memorise the entire piece. I learned Moonlight Sonata to impress a few people but I thought that song is quite boring and I never thought it was that great anyway. I play the guitar and harmonica as well now.

12 years of piano and I still don`t know what intervals are.

Hi,
I started piano around 4 or 5. I was told that I learned how to read music before I learned how to read words. I ended up quitting my lessons after awhile and played on the side, then I went back to taking lessons at age 12. I`m now 15 and have gone through 3 piano teachers and will probably only take 1 or 2 more years of piano lessons because by then I`ll be good enough to play on my own and not have to pay $ when I already know how to play.

I bet you`re about 12, and have played about 2 months, why would someone who`s been playing so long be on a forum like this?

2 years, started at 11. I`m 13 now, but I`ve been going along at a breakneck pace. God, I wish I started earlier, I could have gotten awesome by now
