Has anyone ever played any of Rachmaninov`s piano concertos? How old were you when you played?

Well, I have a modified version for just the piano. I could play it...if I practiced it. I have been playing for 10 years, but only with a teacher for 1 year.

Rachmaninoff concertos are not a piece you want to play untill you are fully developed. They take extreme power and discipline. My teacher says ill start the third by the time im 16. but dont think the rhapsody on the theme of paganini is easy, its basically as hard, if not harder. you play in it almost non stop.

Hey im only 15 and can play just about anything by Rachmaninoff, to me I think that Beethoven`s 3 movement of Moonlight Sonata had much more depth and hardness than the music of Rachmaninoff. Wish me luck for the Hilton Head International contest.
Hope you study some Beethoven. For it has more depth and complications than any of Rachmaninoffs?? pices

I HIGHLY DOUBT YOU COULD PLAY ANYTHING BY RACHMANINOFF AT THE AGE OF 15! dont be arrogant. If you can, I want to seriously meet you in person, and im not kidding. I will meet you in person and see you play. You are probably lying.

I sort of agree.
I played the 3rd Movement of Beethoven`s Moonlight Sonata for my 8th Grade Piano exam in Aus and it`s really nothing on the greater works of Rachmaninoff

Perhaps what he means is that he can play it if he sets his mind to learn it. Anyway, maybe he`s a prodigy. There are such people in the world. Some people just have a gift for music that no one has to teach them.

I agree Sam, although, sometimes I wish I had that gift. Nevertheless, I`m thankful I can play the piano reletively well.

Prodigies don`t always have an easy life. They have so much pressure on them sometimes and maybe they don`t have time for much else except their chosen instrument. They may not have friends. So - I personally wouldn`t really wanna be one.

BTW - That only goes for SOME prodigies I bet others have a happy carefree life!

If he honestly thinks that the third movement of the moonlight is anything special, then he doesnt know beethoven. The third movement is something czerny could have written. there is soooo much better beethoven. Some of rachmaninoff preludes and etudes-tableaux are more difficult than many of beethovens sonatas.
