I`m a freshman piano major at mannhattan school of msuic, and I don`t mean to sound pessimistic, but as far as school funding, a lot of music schools don`t have the funding to give good scholarsihps. juilliard has a lot of money but just being accepted is hard enough, and they base their scholarships on need, because they figure if you`ve gottne in, you`re worthy of a scholarship (if you NEED it). msm doesn`t have much money and has a lot of pianists, so thye get very little money. curtis is one step from impossible to get into, but its free once you do. i`m not sure about nec. however, as far as just getting in, the BEST advice i can give is to have a lesson witha teacher at each school, or 2 teachers (but don`t tell them you`re having lessons with others) and see if there`s one you really wokr well with, which will REALLY help you get in, and make your experience better once you are in.
as for scholarships, best places to look are at outside sources, like government grants in your state, or scholarships given by local clubs and groups, or ethnic scholarships, like those for italian americans, or jewish women, or polish people, etc... look at those coz they`re gonna get you farther than just looking within the schools will.
