Hallo all!!!~
Yes, I've heard nice comments about Chopin's Nocturne in C# minor... Haven't tried that piece yet! Chopin's one of my mum's favourite composer~ Maybe I should practice and play for her...
Zippi: Yeahhhh, thanks for Chopin's~
Afraid I won't play the last sheet? Afraid as in? If it's tough, then it'd be great! The tougher the piece, the more I LOVE it~ Hee...
Duder: Heeeyy, thanks for Rachmaninoff's!
I'd go have a look at the sheet music or search somewhere! Ooh, I've played Funeral March before. I persisted with my teacher when she was finding a new piece for me to practice! Hmmsz, it doesn't sound as sad as the title should be... or maybe it's just my heart's made of ice!
Axel: Hee, ^5 (high five) for the same interest for sad pieces!!! Happy practicing and have fun which I know you would!
Hey, are you a fan of Kingdom Hearts? I love their songs as well~ I'm into playing songs from RPGs especially from Square-Enix's~ One of my all time favourites is 'Rose of May' from Final Fantasy IX and I'm currenly trying to play 'Kiss me Goodbye' from FFXII.
To me, practically nothing beats playing sad pieces! Lol even though I've completed my grades, my teacher's still reluctant to agree to let me play sad pieces! Told me I'm better with fast and upbeat ones~
Thank you everyone for your replies (and info)! Talk to you guys again!!!

Yup! I am a big fan of Final Fantasy and Kingdom hearts. Leave it to Square for some good music. I am trying to learn a song called "To Zanarkand" from FFX, it's a very beautiful, sad piece. Well talk to you later Wind bye!

I adore the beautiful sad pieces. I love the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy music, sad or happy, but sad is best, so much! Also, I like the song from Naruto, Sadness and Sorrow, heh fits the category, eh? The piano version is the best. I am also happy that after years of self teaching, I am going to get a piano teacher finally. ^^splee!

For me I always found it wasn't so much sad v. happy as major v. minor modes. The minor keys and similar modes can be sad, angry, excited, and so much more. And for some reason, I've always been drawn to pieces in C# minor specifically (Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, Chopin's Posthumous Nocturne, Rachmaninoff's Prelude, etc).
For other specific pieces I would recommend Chopin's preludes, too, esp. #6 in B minor for the haunting sotto voce/hidden left hand melody, and the ever popular #4 in E minor. This masterpiece has three separate voices independently dropping chromatically toward the final chord of death, yet somehow being consonant all along the way. I once read that it was played, at his own request, at Chopin's funeral (though I think they played a lot of music at his funeral, not just this).
