i kinda think both percussion and string, because it has strings and the hammer hits the strings to make the note so i'm not exactly sure.

IF you need it for GCSE music I would probably say percussion. Technically it's percussion, strings, and keyboards, but most official stuff would probably say percussion, and if its modern enough it should say keyboards

This is what it says on Wikipedia on the "Piano" page:

"Piano is the general name given to a musical instrument classified as a keyboard, percussion, or string instrument, depending on the system of classification used."

Hope this tries to clear some things up...

As for the whole "electronic family'-thing, I don't know if there even is one (at least not in certain genres of music).

Stirngs If you look at the back of the piano you will see that all the strings attach to the keys to make it play

hey.. know it's a bit late but the piano belongs to the keyboard family. this family can be classified as percussion insruments since they play a rhytmic part in some music. though not every instrument in the keyboard family can produce sound by hitting, for instance the organ and the harpsichord. these instruments produce sound by a different action and are only relatives of the piano.. but um,, well, yah the piano belongs to the keyboard and percussion..
