well i was listening to a cd my best friend put on and i was playing with her little sisters piano.
it was shania twain, "whos bed have your boots been under" i think.
i was listening to it then all of a sudden i played most of the chorous on the piano. is it that hard to play things by ear by not even really thinking about it? i did it with zelda songs, the sound of music, band peices from former years, this year, x-mas songs and a few others right off the bat. uncommon or just stupid?

That's so neat! Grats!

But don't let it overpower your natural ability to read sheet music.

My grandmother (on my dad's side) can play by ear in the key of D-flat major (I think). My sister can play a little by ear as well, and I can play slightly. I'm trying to develop it more.

Cool! I can do that too! My brother is much better at it, though. Right now, he's obsessed with all the different countries and everything about them (their populations, anthems, flags/coat of arms, etc...). Anyway, he hears the anthems on the internet and can figure them out on the piano in a few minutes. It's amazing to watch him, especially because he doesn't know what notes he's playing or anything!

I believe being a natural at piano is a rare gift and one that many people relish. I was one of those people who was an awesome natural. the first time I sat down at a piano, I sat there for half an hour listening to fur elise and within that time I could play the whole thing right and left handed. Keep practicing and remember dont use just your ear but read as well. It was hard for me at first to read over ear playing but you will need it.

this is called ear training. I am pretty good at that, too. I ear-trained the whole "Treasured Memories" song from Kingdom Hearts I..... and I was pretty stoked. I also have perfect pitch. fear my wrath! lol
