I'm fifteen and would like advice on a beautiful, difficult piano piece (technique and music) for my next recital (plenty of time to learn it).

I perform Romantic pieces the best. Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G-minor Op. 23 is my absolute favorite that I've played so far.

I'd like a piece around the difficulty of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.

I want a very Romantic and expressive piece with many rubato opportunities.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Play one of the Chopin Scherzos. The first is wild and fast. The second is fast but has a great slow middle section, and the third is I think the most difficult because of very fast octaves and all the arpeggios. Try a listen- I bet you will like them. If you want something a little different, try some Mendelssohn, I especially like the Rondo Capriccioso In E, Op. 14. I hope I helped!

A good one that is difficult(grade 8)and sounds amazing, try Rondo alla Turca.

Oops, this is a Classical piece, so not really what your're looking for.

Grieg's Ballade in G minor is good piece that changes tempi, time signatures, and I believe a few keys. It is quite a long piece, but still do-able nonetheless; just depends on how long you want to work on it.

Thank you everyone who has helped me

Most of the songs you all mentioned are ones that I have previously played and are definitely not challenging enough, like Fur Elise, Rondo Alla Turca, and the Chopin Nocturne.

I'm looking into the Chopin scherzo's and the Grieg ballade. They're all really great pieces, especially to listen to, but I guess I don't find them aesthetically pleasing enough.
Ugh... I'm so picky...

I'm SO tempted to play Fantasie Impromptu again, but I played that in seventh grade and I don't want to take steps backwards.

For another great piece, but not necessarily from the Romantic era, Rachmaninoff's Elegy in E-flat minor is a wonderful piece, but I'm thinking it's difficulty is a bit lacking. If not, maybe try some pieces by Gottschalk for some virtuosity.

You could try something other than romantic repertoire- such as something from the baroque period. A piece that I just performed is JS Bach's Partita No. 2 in C minor for piano. I only really liked romantic stuff before that, but now i am hooked on Bach. You could try some of the Preludes and Fugues from the Well Tempered Clavier. Those take some time and colleges love to see students who can perform them.

If you're looking for a challenging beautiful then check out my piano solo "Pain," which you can find right on my profile here on the sight.

If that doesn't challenge you than at least leave a comment or something haha.

'Liebestraume no.3' by Franz Liszt is definitely the piece you're looking 4.
Or,
You could of course try the 'Fantasie Impromptu' by Frederic Chopin.
These are my favourite piano pieces. And I'm sure you'll agree with me.

ahh. Try...La Valise De Amelie...i may i have the name wrong but i think its a really beautiful (and romantic) song.

Ive only been taking lessons for a year so im not really "hip" to all of these pieces everyone is throwing out.

I am working Fantasia in D Minor as my recital piece in June...I dont know if this is considered a Romantic song
