I have found an online piano lessons website that looks really reasonable and says that it can take me to the next level as I am only a beginner however it is just about $40. Is this reasonable?

It depends on what the site is.. what features does it offer, and what are you getting for your money?
What's the website?
(www.onlinepianist.com is a really good site, that has free piano tutorials once you get a grip on what you're doing)

Are you only looking into online lessons? Is there a reason you are not looking for a piano teacher?

You might want to read it's review:

It claims that, "...The $39.95 price is only temporary."

Good Luck!
