FMusA is the highest AMEB level, not LMUsA. You get to choose your own program for it- no set pieces- and you get to give a concert. I would do it on the clarinet (not yet, but in maybe a years time) if I could be bothered getting my AMusA and LMusA first.

Grade 8 at age 7

To Eric...Although I hate to mention this... it`s really posiible to complete grade 8 at age 7. I personally had a friend who completed his Grade 8 at age 8, and then ATCL at age 12, then FTCL at age 17. Hmmm...What can I say? But I do agree with Rachel...He`s one hell of a virtuoso, but his playing is not emotionally evoking at all... Ok, regarding the question as to who`s the best? I`ve realised one really strange trait when I was still a student at the R.S. Those who are really good( as in flawlessly perfect)...are really low profile, highly modest human beings. And u really wouldn`t think of em as great(for whatever reasons) until one fine day they got to perform and like forever rock yr world. They are like the `enlightened beings`, never among our midst. Whereas we`re just a bunch of stuck up, boastful tenns then. Well, so much a thought for who`s the best player? So I`m gonna be wiser this time( as exp. has taught me well) by keeping my mouth shut. Have a nice day!

I dont know whos the best or anything, but I know I`ve loved the instrument since I was 8 years old. Im now 19. Theres just a certain feeling you get when you play, it can make you happier when your happy, or sadder when your sad. When I was in High School I used to love to lock myself in the practice rooms we had (wich had sound proof doors and acoustics inside) and Id just turn off the lights and play to my hearts content. Does anyone else feel like that when they play?

that Yang Yang dude surely comes close to being the best.
Liszt, though, was the best of the best.

Well, I have to say that if the piano man himself, the one and only BILLY JOEL is here writing under some nickname... surely here can´t be anyone who could beat him!!! He´s just outstanding.

To DW.. just a question... would a examiner feel sympathetic to a boy cuz he is young? i mean like if you did a high grade at a young age wouldnt the examiner score higher marks for him than for someone who is like 20 and doing the same grade even though they played at the same skill lvl?

Hmmm...I`ve been to one examiner`s workshop a few years back with my teacher. They held workshops among themselves every now and then to settle and reach a general consensus of marking guidelines.(one very stupid set of guidelines that obviously not all examiners will follow) Hmmm...And I dun think that they`ll be sympathetic towards someone who`s younger. Though this is the instruction given, but I don`t know whether all examiners will follow. Well, anyway what are u trying to say? Sorry, but I don`t quite get u. Are u saying that becaz he`s younger, so it`s easier for him to score? Hmmm, I really don`t think so. He`s really young. BUT music is music. I dun think the fact that someone much smaller in size sitting in front of a 7`grand will alter the outcome anyway. Though it may visually stunning to `watch` for the first few moments. But we`re talking abt. almost an hour of non-stop performance for FTCL. I dun think that first few minutes of `visual stunt` is that stunning to an examiner who has probably done all and see all. But I`m not too eager to credit him for his `marvellous` playing for such a young age. Caz, as I`ve said, I really dun see eye to eye with his feel and interpretation. Though the `masters` in the masterclasses kept praising him. They`re always so overwhelmed by his young age, which to me is quite irritating. Imagine all the Bravos and so flying around the auditorium...which makes me slightly pi**ed sometimes. And all the time when we go for masterclasses...I`ll tell myself...Well, here it goes again. Maybe in a way, my jealousy has blinded me from acknowledging his talents...That happens to alot of people who practiced real hard to get where they are. What do u think?

I think that it`s hilarious that you people let some imbecile start an argument amongst yourselves by simply asking a question that is obviously a horribly disguised attempt to instigate a fight for kicks. But, it apparently worked. :P

When I said "Yang Yang" I meant "Lang Lang" (an honest mistake, really).
He`s "one of the best" today, he really brings a feel into the piano music with his expressions.

Sorry this is a bit late but I have to say it, one of the posts said that if that little guy had finished grade 8 when he was 7 that he would`ve been better than Mozart, which is really far off. Not sure if they had it back then but Mozart had a FmusA when he was like 5! Which is a bit better than 8 at age 7. Not that it`s not incredible to be that good at 7. Anyways.

OH MY GOD, and I thought you people couldn`t stoop any lower, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? How is arguing if a 7 year old could pass grade 8 making any of us better players? I wouldn`t particularly care if some 3 year old from Russia passed their FmusA (whatever the hell that is) because I`m not so shallow that I get jealous at anyone who is better than me. I play because I like to play, because it is a good way to vent my emotion. I don`t particularly give a **** what anyone else thinks, and I think that grades are a complete waste of time because they bear little resemblance to the musical ability of the player, just the ability of the player to play a bunch of keys in the right order. I know an autistic kid (Well I know someone who knows someone who knows someone etc.) and they stuck him in front of a piano and after a while he could sight read just about anything you gave him, but he didn`t actually enjoy the music, he didn`t really PLAY at all he just pressed a bunch of black and white buttons in sequence. Apparently he would get to the end of a page and then just stop, because he couldn`t see that the piece was going anywhere, the music meant NOTHING to him. He could probably pass grade 8 in a week but can he play the piano? HELL NO. So you can go on and on with this stupid argument in this stupid thread or you could just get back to playing the piano which is what this forum is about.
