Although you might find Chopin, Bach, Rac., Beethoven, Scriaben, I find the hardest pieces have been composed by Franz Liszt(transcendental etudes, etudes de paganini, Annes de pe.,totenaz, Dante Sonata, and his concert etudes.)and Busoni(especially his transcription of Bachs Chaconne.)
I have a website that you could visit at www.freewebs.com/virtuoso19/
and a chat room. Good Luck

Hey. I have a fair bit of experience in piano. Pletnev`s transcriptions of the Nutcracker Suite are very difficult. I heard Rem Urasin playing the whole thing (2nd in the Sydney international piano competition and people`s choice) and it was mind blowing. I`m learning Andante Maestoso at the moment, its fantastic.

Military Polonaise by Chopin is very difficult. The Rach 3 is quite difficult, but so is Tschaik`s 1st piano concerto. The hardest I do not know.

i think that the hardest piece ever is the op. 106 or "hammerklavier" sonata.

i am thirteen and some of the hardest pieces i`ve played are:
fantaisie impromptu
rondo alla turka
eine kleine nachktmusik

a lot of people don`t find this hard but i do and i think that giving it a shot makes music not so hard as it seems.

it also depends on the way people learn. i know someone who doesn`t think any piece is too hard.

I`m 55 years old and have been playing the piano for 54 years. None of the pieces suggested are difficult. If you`re really looking for something challenging, try something by the elusive composer, Sergi Aubertini.

no mindegy örülök a sok zongoristának
This letter was in hungarian language. I can speak my mother language and I can make oppinion in this language:D

Roget, u can`t say that everyone on this board are dimwits. Anyway, I think Xenakis` Herma is on the same level as Ravel`s Gaspard de la nuit
